WESLEYAN SUNDAY SCHOOL
BAND OF HOPE.
A social meeting was held yesterday evening in connection with the above named society, in the school room, Tiffin lane. The teachers and choir and all the friends who assisted at the entertainment held recently, sat down to an excellent cup of tea at half past seven o'clock, the tables being presided over by several lady teachers.
After tea a few short addresses were given by the ministers and other friends, and altogether a very pleasant and enjoyable evening was spent.
LOCAL BOARD ELECTION.
The voting papers for this election were delivered on Saturday last, and will be collected today (Thursday). The result to be made known on Saturday; and it is anxiously looked forward to.
Several of the candidates, or persons appointed by them for the purpose, have been busily engaged in canvassing during the present week. But with the exception of that and the issue of addresses, there is little or nothing to create excitement.
It is a matter of disappointment to the ratepayers that a public meeting has not been held similar to the one last year, whereby they might have verbally heard the views of the different candidates.
