SAVAGE ATTACK BY A
CONVICT ON A WARDER.

A warder of Wormwood Scrubs Convict Establishment was savagely attacked by a convict on Saturday morning last. He had a few minutes previously reported the convict for a breach of the prison rules, and when the convict was returned to him from the office, he managed to strike him a heavy blow on the head with an instrument used in the basket - making shop, cutting the warder's head, and rendering him insensible for a time. Another convict gave the alarm, and some others went to the warder's assistance.

THE CLAIMANT.

In an announcement issued on Monday by the friends of a claimant of a demonstration next Monday (Easter Monday) to be held on Clerkenwell Green for promoting his release from prison, some statements are made with reference  to the still much debated and unforgotten TICHBORNE case. The first is as follows:

"Sir Roger TICHBORNE is coming out of penal servitude to claim his estates," and this is followed by the declaration that "Arthur ORTON is coming back from Australia." Then it is stated that "Charles ORTON, the brother of Arthur, will be present to answer any questions that may be asked of him," and will "act fairly." It appears that the finacial condition of the associations which are agitating  for the release of the Claimant is not such as to warrant the expense of the usual Easter Monday Hyde Park demonstration, and that hence the humble Clerkenwell quarter has been selected.
