       WHITEHAVEN.
            
PRESENTATION OF PRIZES.


       The members of the Holy Trinity Church Bible class, Whitehaven, were
invited to a supper by their president, Mr. E. PARTINGTON, in the Refuge
School, Whitehaven, Thursday night.

       At eight o'clock and knife and fork supper was provided by Mrs.
PARTINGTON, and was partaken of by about 60 members. The following ladies attended
the tables:

       Mr. G. PALMER also rendered assistance to the wants of the party. The
room was tastefully decorated with streamers, which were kindly lent by Mr. G.
BARNFATHER, and evergreens, which were also given by Mr. WILLIS, Haile. Mr.
E. PARTINGTON was responsible for the decorations. After full justice had been done to all the good things provided the members spent the rest of the evening in various games and amusements.

       During the evening prizes were distributed to 14 members, who had the
most number of marks during the past year. Mrs. G. PALMER presented the prizes
to the following members:

       Mr. BURNYEAT proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs. PARTINGTON for
providing the supper, to Mrs. G. PALMER for distributing the prizes, and to the ladies that had presided at the tables, and to Mr. BARNFATHER for kindly lending the streamers. Mr. I. HUTCHINSON seconded the proposal, and it was carried with acclamation.

       Mrs. PARTINGTON proposed a vote of thanks to the secretary and the
treasurer, Mr. BURNYEAT for his valuable services to the class. The motion was carried unanimously. During the evening songs and hymns were sung by the
