The death of one of the old and well known residents (MR. PENNY, of Amity Cottage) took place on Friday evening.  Although deceased had been ailing for some weeks, he recovered sufficiently to get out for short walks, so that his friends had hopes of his complete recovery.
This improvement was only temporary, and a relapse taking place, he gradually grew worse.
MR. PENNY was 76 years of age, and had resided in Waberthwaite since 1871, Amity Cottage being his own property.  Although of a very retiring disposition, he was known to be the possessor of a kind heart.  He was a bachelor, and his nearest relatives are nephews who are resident in London.
The body was removed to Colton, the deceased's native place, for internment on Monday morning.
