BROUGHTON-IN-FURNESS
     CHURCH INSTITUTE.


       Under the auspices of the Church Institute the annual social gathering
was held in the school room Broughton-in-Furness. The weather was awfully
wild and unfavourable, consequently the attendance was only poor. Proceedings
commenced with a tea, the arrangements for which were carried out by Mrs.
WHINERAY. The tables were presided over by:

       At the close of the tea a concert was held presided over by Rev. James
CROPPER. The promoters had secured the services of Mr. James BARKER and Mrs.
BARKER, of Bristol, both of whom met with a hearty reception. Miss. W.
CHORLTON proved an efficient accompanist. The programme was as follows:

       After the concert the room was cleared for dancing, the music being
supplied by Mr. F. MUDGE. The duties of M. C.'s were undertaken by Messrs. Wm.
BELL, J. S. BALDERSTONE and J. J. SINGLETON.
