TOLLS TO LET

Notice is hereby given, that the tolls arising at the toll gates, side gate,
and side bar or chain, upon the said turnpike road, called or known by the
names of LOWGILL LANE GATE, COPELAND BECK GATE, SANDFORD LANE END SIDE BAR
OR CHAIN, BOLTON LANE END GATE, LONGMARTON LANE END SIDE GATE, and TEMPLE
SOWERBY GATE, will be let by auction, at the MOOT HALL, in APPLEBY, in the
County of Westmorland, on Saturday, the 12th day of October next, between
the hours of eleven in the forenoon and three in the afternoon, in the
manner directed by the acts passed in the 3rd and 4th years of the reign of
his Majesty King George the Fourth, ?For regulating turnpike roads,? for
such term of years and in such lots as shall then be agreed upon, commencing
from the 1st day of January next, which tolls were let for the term of three
years, ending on the 31st day of December next, in the lots and at the
several sums undermentioned above the expenses of collecting them, viz.:-

Lowgill Lane Gate?..£207
Copeland Beck Gate and Sandford Lane End Side Bar or Chain?.£230
Bolton Lane End Gate and Longmarton Lane End Side Gate??.£160
Temple Sowerby Gate???..£157

TOTAL ?..£754

And will be put up at such sums as the trustees think fit.  Whoever happens
to be the best bidder for any lot or lots, must at the same time pay one
month in advance (if required) of the rent at which such tolls may be let,
and give security, with sufficient sureties, to the satisfaction of the
trustees of the said turnpike road, for payment of the rest of the money
monthly, or in such other proportions as the said trustees shall direct.

And notice is hereby also given, that the general business of the said road
will be transacted at the same time.
