CUMBERLAND CHRISTMAS SESSIONS.

    The following prisoners were arraigned and severally pleaded guilty to the offences laid to their charge: --

    Frederic TAYLOR (aged 27), indicted for stealing a coat, the property of James MCDONALD, of Wigton, in November last.
 
    Sentence:  Two months' imprisonment, two weeks' solitary confinement.
 
                    *******************************************************
 
    William  JESSOP (aged 22), indicted for stealing a silk handkerchief and a woollen shawl, the property of William OSTLEFF, of Whitehaven, in November last.
    
    Sentence:  Three months' imprisonment, two weeks solitary.  
 
                    ********************************************************
 
    John DOGHERTY (aged 24), indicted for stealing four shillings from the person of Margaret WANNOP, of Newtown.
 
    Sentence:  To be imprisoned for three months, with two weeks' solitary confinement.
 
                    ********************************************************
 
    Henry HEWITSON, (aged 67), indicted for stealing 24lb of coal, the property of Joseph HARRIS, Esq., Greysouthen.
 
    Sentence:  One month's imprisonment, with labour suited to age, and two days solitary.

    William BELL (aged 27), and Jonathan LUNSON, (aged 26), both of Penrith, were indicted for assaulting Thomas HALL, one of the watchers of Sir George MUSGRAVE, of Edenhall, on the night of the seventh of December last, they being at the time armed with guns, and in pursuit of game in Coat Gill Wood, in the parish of Edenhall.  (The particulars of this case will be in the recollection of our reader.)
 
    Sentence:  Seven years' transportation.

John DAVIDSON, (aged 15), indicted for stealing a silver watch of the value of ten shillings, the property of William BRADFORD, of the parish of St. BEES.
 
Sentence:  To be imprisoned for three calendar months, two weeks solitary.
 
                    ********************************************************
 
George CAMERON, (aged 25), indicted for assaulting Thomas SANCTON, a constable, in the discharge of his duty.  The prisoner had been admitted to bail.
 
    Sentence:  To be imprisoned for three calendar months, with hard labour.
