We understand that the various Benevolent Societies at Cockermouth, are making the most extensive preparations for the celebration of the festival of their respective orders on Whit-Tuesday.
The Oddfellows and the Ancient Order of Foresters propose a united procession, and to attend church together, after which the Foresters will occupy the room in the New Market, while the Oddfellows will dine in the commodious warehouse, formerly occupied by Mr. ROBINSON, carrier, in Globe Lane.
All the other clubs have arranged for similar proceedings. The Rechabites will dine at the new School Room, and the Druids at Mr. TOMLINSON’s the Greyhound. They are equally on the alert, and the inhabitants anticipate a day of unusual gaiety.
Several of the gentry of the neighbourhood have been invited to partake in the festivities, and we trust they will encourage these very useful societies by their presence.
