On Tuesday last John WILLIS, farm servant with Captain SPENCER, of Broughton, was found dead on the road between that place and Papcastle, with his cheek considerably injured, and his head awfully fractured.
It appears that he had been rolling and finishing some land near Broughton, and had subsequently left the roller at Mr. BIRKETT’s, of Papcastle, when he proceeded homewards with the cart - but was found a short time afterwards as we have described.
The precise manner in which the accident occurred could not be ascertained, but it was conjectured that the horse had run away, and that the deceased, in leaping from the cart, had fallen with his head between the wheel and the wall.
An inquest was held on the body on Wednesday, before William LUMB, Esq., when a verdict of “Accidental Death” was returned.
