The Genealogist - UK census, BMDs and more online

On Monday last our market was well supplied with stock of all sorts, and the attendance of dealers was also large.

Fat cattle sold at from 18s to 20s, and in some instances, where very prime, at 21s per stone.

Milch cows and present calves were in great demand at a considerable improvement upon the prices of last Michaelmas fair.

A large quantity of young bullocks were bought up for Newcastle Road fair, which is to be held on the 22d inst., at an improved price.

Generally speaking we may say that as compared with the prices at Michaelmas, lean stock from the immediate neighbourhood went off well at fair prices;  but such as came from a distance, met with a slower sale.

Some fat sheep from the Westmorland quarter were in fair demand at prices ranging from 4d to 4-3/4d per lb.
