A brood sow at the Union Workhouse, Cockermouth, recently farrowed six young pigs, but contrary to the nature of these animals in general, she immediately killed, and was about to eat two of her young.

Her unnatural design was however, frustrated by MR. DAVIDSON, the governor, who took the remainder under his care, and contrived to supply them with warm milk from a tea pot, to the spout of which a glove finger has been fastened.

The young squeakers have taken to their inanimate fosterer most kindly, and are thriving under this novel mode of nursing.
