Epping Forest is being plagued at present by hordes of rowdy sparrows. The invaders have taken possession of large tracts of the thicket, especially in the neighbourhood of Chingford, Loughton and Theydon Bois.
The birds seem attracted by the prospect of enjoying an “unearned increment” arising from the crumbs of cake left by the numerous school treats now held in this popular playground.
No respectable bird can tolerate the company of sparrows, and it is feared that these noisy pests may drive away the song birds, as they have from most woodlands near populous cities in America.
