The Genealogist - UK census, BMDs and more online

Yesterday, Wednesday there were a great number of day excursionists. The Dalton Parish Church Sunday School scholars and adult friends numbering about 1,700, came in the morning in two special trains. In the afternoon two heavily laden trains arrived from Frizington with the members and friends of the Catholic Church.
The day being fine, the trippers enjoyed their visit to the seaside and the attractions of the seashore. The Dalton friends brought a band of music, whose playing enlivened the people, and also for dancing.
A friendly cricket match was played on the recreation ground, and a good number patronised the wagonettes, driving to Gosforth to see the ancient church and churchyard cross.
