THE LATE MR. JOHN MOSSOP,
DEANSCALES.
_____

A service in memory of the late John MOSSOP, of home Farm, Deanscales, was held in the Wesleyan Chapel, Eaglesfield, on Sunday afternoon.

The service, which was conducted by the Rev. J. W. MOUNTFORD, was very impressive. In the opening prayers thanksgiving was offered for the beautiful character manifested by the deceased and the work he was able to render to the church as a local preacher, and the Divine blessing was evoked for the sorrowing widow and family.

The hymns, “Oh God our help in ages past,” and “Peace, perfect peace,” was feelingly sung. Mr. MOUNTFORD said it was not his intention to pronounce a eulogium upon their departed brother, but to set forth from a portion of Scripture that grace which was so markedly manifest in the life, and especially in the last days of their friend. The passage chosen was St. John xiv., 27, “My peace I leave unto you.”

The preacher showed the nature of that peace as revealed in the life and experiences of Jesus Christ, and in a special reference to Mr. MOSSOP said how wonderfully that peace seemed to have taken possession of his nature, and so consistently set forth in his life. A large congregation attended the service.
