EXTENSIVE FIRE IN SUNDERLAND ---On Saturday forenoon an extensive fire broke out in the large works known as Mr. JOHN HAY'S patent ropery, situate near the railway station, Monkwearmouth.  It raged for several hours and has done a considerable amount of injury, destroying the machinery and stock upon the premises where it broke out.  The goods warehouse at the railway station was at one time threatened, but it escaped without any serious harm.  The privates of the North Durham Militia were employed nearly all day in preventing the extension of the flames, and the large river engine belonging to the Wear Commissioners did great service by pouring a body of water on the burning premises.
